Esther Williams
Esther Williams is probably one of the most famous synchronized swimmer and actress! She was known for her glamorous image and all her achievements in life. Her best movie is probably "Million dollar Mermaid".
Esther Williams was born in August 1921 in California, and died in 2013 in Los Angeles at the age of 91.
Her father was a painter and her mother was a psychologist. Esther Williams was the fifth and youngest child of her family. She took a job counting towels at the pool to pay the five cent entry fee, and while there, had swimming lessons from a lifeguards.
She started high level competitions really early! But in 1940 she wasn't able to participate to the Summer Olympics because of World War II.
After that, she started to appear in small roles in Films, while swimming and competing.Williams made a series of films in the 1940s and early 1950s known as "aquamusicals," which showed elaborate performances with synchronized swimming in it. They were really popular at this time...
Esther Williams is also known as a successful businesswoman! Even before being famous actress, she invested in a service station, a metal products plant, a manufacturer of bathing suits, various properties and a successful restaurant. She also rent her name in a swimsuit brand and was the commentator of synchronized swimming during the Olympics in 1984 in Los Angeles...
She died in 2013 in her sleep from natural causes... She was cremated, her ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean.
